Obituary of Filomena Basile

Filomena Castellano Basile, of Danbury, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 30, 2020 at her home in Danbury. Filomena was also known as Phyllis to all her family and friends. She just celebrated her 90th birthday on November 5th.  She was born in Brooklyn to the late Angelo and Carmela Castellano.  She was the loving wife of the late John Robert Basile who passed away in 2008.

Phyllis will be remembered as a loving daughter, wife, mom, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  Everything she did, she did for her family.  In her younger years, Phyllis enjoyed playing cards and bowling. She also enjoyed playing the slots at the casinos, playing bingo, spending time at different racetracks, and spending time with her family. 

Phyllis will be sadly missed by her children: Helen Delancy and husband, Jack, Patricia Sliman and husband, Alan, Jackie Basile and wife, Celia; her sister, Millie Maritato; her brother Frank Castellano and wife, Lynn; Grandchildren: Robert and his wife, Diana, Danielle and her husband, Mark, Kimberly and her husband, Nick, AJ, Kristen, John and his wife, Holly, Chris and his wife, Kendra, Anthony and his wife, Tomi, and Vinnie; Great-grandchildren: Ashley, Ryan, Carter, Markie, Brandon, Lia, Grayson, Jayden, Scarlett, Logan, Jack; Brothers-in-law: Joe Ford and Robert Basile and his wife, Jeanne.

In addition to her husband and parents, Phyllis now joins her brother, Michael Castellano; sisters-in-law: Margie Gilhooly and husband, Tom, Diana Ford, and Flo Castellano; and her brother-in-law, James Maritato.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30am on Saturday, December 5, 2020 at St. Gregory the Great Church, 85 Great Plain Rd, Danbury with entombment to follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery.  All are asked to meet at church and abide by the Covid-19 guidelines of wearing a mask and maintaining social distance.
