Obituary of Calvin Douglas Waters

Mr. Calvin D. Waters, age 73, of Newtown, died Thursday October 15, 2020. He was the loving husband of Celeste R. (Straiton) Waters.

Cal was born October 6, 1947 in Danbury, son of the late William F. and Clara (Lashinger) Waters. He was a graduate of Henry Abbott Tech, having received the Carpenter of the Year award.  He served in the CT Army National Guard for six years. Cal was retired as a general contractor and owner of C.D. Waters Company. For the last several years he worked for DR Carroll Corp.

In addition to his wife Celeste, Cal is survived by his children: Christopher Waters and his wife Amy of Danbury, Stephanie Waters and Garry Michinko of Danbury and Courtney (Waters) Kowcheris and her husband Jeremy of Newtown, his sisters: Pamela Waters and Richard Hayden of Ridgefield and Charlene Waters of Mesa, AZ, his grandchildren: Sarah, Evan, Colin and Gavin Waters, and several nieces and nephews.

Cal had a big heart and would do anything for anyone. He could fix anything and had a tool for any job. He always said "there's no such thing as too many screwdrivers". Cal was an avid motorcyclist and car enthusiast. He would ride 3 hours for a cup of coffee. It was never about the destination, but was always about the ride. Cal always had a map in his hand, planning his journeys, which annually took him to Americade, Rolling Thunder and Daytona Bike Week. On any Saturday he would ride his Yamaha with the guys, and Sundays with Celeste on the Goldwing.

Cal and Celeste met at the age of 17 and were happily married for 51 years.  He built the home in Newtown where they raised their three children. He loved cats, and his granddog Lenny, and often cared for strays (or local wildlife) that took up residence at his garage. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.  His wife Celeste, children and grandchildren were the light of his life.

Mr. Waters’ family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday October 20,2020 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury.
