Obituary of Clifford Bradley Pomeroy

Clifford Bradley Pomeroy Jr., known as “Kippy,” passed away Wednesday January 15, 2020 at Regional Hospice, after bravely fighting a long illness, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born January 27th, 1942 to the late Clifford Sr. and Alice (Schulte) Pomeroy. He was the proud father of two daughters and loving husband to Marilyn “Bonnie” (Peet) Pomeroy. In addition to his wife, Kippy is survived by his daughters: Kari Del Vecchio and her husband Daniel, Kimberly Schmus and her husband Bob, his step sons: Bennett Short and his wife LeAnn, Robert Short and his wife Aubrey, his sisters: Pamela Portelance and her husband Richard, Gail and the late Herman Bizer, his beloved grandchildren: Emma, Lyndsey, and Lana Del Vecchio, Ellie and Camden Schmus, Hannah, David, Colton, and Weston, as well as several beloved nieces and nephews, honorary grandsons Dylan and Zac, and his first great grandchild on the way. In the winter of 1942, Kippy was brought into this world. Weighing in at only 3 pounds, the preemie baby, that was so small he slept in a shoe box, would go on to later become a 6 foot 1-inch-tall soldier. During his high school career at Abbott Tech, Kippy broke the record for fastest cross country runner and it wasn’t until recently that the record was broken. He decided to join the Navy Reserve, so that once he graduated he was able to follow in the footsteps of his father and so many others to fight for the freedom of his country. Once he received his high school diploma, he was off to begin training for the Navy, and by January of 1962 he was in active duty on the USS Lake Champlain CVS-39, the fastest ship in the fleet at that time. With a crew of about 4,300 soldiers, Kip stayed below deck as a boiler technician. Kippy proudly served in the Navy during the Cuban Missile Crisis, as well as the Army Reserves. Kip was a member of the Masonic Lodge alongside his father for many years. He was undefeated as a horseshoe player and often spent his downtime playing golf, cribbage, and was a darn good bowler. Kippy used his Electrical Certification from Abbott Tech to go on to work at SNET and AT&T for many years until his retirement. He later went on to become one of the original owners of Cruisers Motor Sports with his son-in-law, fueling his love for cars. Kippy’s 1955 Chevy Bel Air and his 1967 Corvette Convertible became his pride and joy and they both appeared in multiple events in his daughters’ lives, including their proms and weddings. Along with the aforementioned cars, he and his wife purchased a 1968 Camaro Rally Sport which was a big part of their fondest memories. The ladies man was lucky enough to end up with four adoring granddaughters and a grandson that is the spitting image of him in his younger years. We are proud to know that he has become the guardian angel to his first great grandson and will be remembered by his family as their North Star. We will continue to spread the positivity that Kippy carried with him throughout his life and we hope that you remember him as the kind, loving, gentle soul that he was. When you watch the UConn Girls Basketball team, the Boston Celtics, or NASCAR we hope you think of Kippy. He and his family would lastly like to give a great deal of thanks to his nurse Catherine, his chaplain Sam, and social worker Emily for the comfort and care they provided him and his family with for the passed several months. Kippy’s family will be celebrating him on Friday January 24, 2020 from 4 to 7p.m. at the Brookfield Funeral Home, 786 Federal Road Brookfield. A presentation of Naval honors will be held that day at 7p.m. and will conclude with a brief prayer service. A private inurnment will be held the following day. In lieu of the flowers, Kippy would prefer memorial contributions be made to the Regional Hospice and Home Care, 30 Milestone Road, Danbury, CT 06810.
