Obituary of Matthew Gary Carisi

Danbury – Mr. Matthew Gary Carisi, age 75, of Danbury, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday January 13, 2020, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Colleen Andrea (Girdey) Carisi. Mr. Carisi was born August 12, 1944 in Yonkers, New York son of the late Matthew H. and Rose (Albert) Carr. He was a master composer, arranger, pianist, vocalist and music teacher with extensive experience in public performance, composition, orchestration, and arrangement. He performed at numerous international venues throughout his career, composed many scores, participated in many major production efforts and taught music in the Danbury school system. He enjoyed model trains, teaching music and serving as the choir director at his church. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy and was a pianist, arranger and instructor with the U.S. Navy Band, performing in the U.S.A., Spain, Italy, France, Greece, Malta and Turkey from 1966 – 1969 and later made several guest appearances with the Northeast Regional Navy Band at Newport, R.I. and throughout the Northeast from 1980 - present. In addition to his wife Colleen and her family, Mr. Carisi is survived by his daughter Kyra Marie Czar, his grandson Julius Rockczar, his sister Marie MacSweeney and her husband William of Somers, N.Y, his brother in law Francis Caron of Massachusetts, and many nephews and nieces. Matt also considered many to be his extended family, to include "God sons" John Woodruff and Joseph McCarthy. He was predeceased by his wife Janice Marie Carisi and his sisters Nancy Blasko and Barbara Caron. Mr. Carisi’s family will receive relatives and friends on Friday January 24, 2020 from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Friday January 24, 2020 at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Wooster Cemetery in Danbury.
