Obituary of Mary Wilton Costigan

Mary Wilton Costigan, age 63 of Danbury, passed away quietly on Tuesday July 23, 2019 surrounded by her family at Regional Hospice in Danbury.  She was the loving wife of John Costigan.

She was born March 13, 1956 in Pittsburgh, PA and grew up in Larchmont, NY with her parents, the late Gordon and Mary Louise Sutherland.

Everything Mary did, she did with passionate commitment – whether it was creating a home for her family, running, swimming, knitting, writing, caring for others or her unwavering faith in God.

Mary was an exceptional woman and left an impact on the lives of every person she met. She was gentle, nurturing and a constant source of encouragement but also a fierce advocate for those that she loved and, through her personal experiences, made others more compassionate. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend.

She was a nurse and, eventually a nurse practitioner, for 27 years where she dedicated her time to comforting, healing and educating others. Once retired, she spent her time traveling around the country with John, taking care of her home, running in marathons, swimming on a master’s swim team, studying the bible and following Jesus as a member of Walnut Hill Church.

Mary will be missed by her husband John Costigan of Danbury; her children: John D. Pallino of Danbury and Jennifer (Costigan) Reale and her husband Brian of Brookfield; her brother Peter Sutherland and his wife Peggy of New York; and her grandchildren: Blake, Ella, and Catherine.  Mary was predeceased by her son, Dominick J. Pallino.

A Celebration of Mary’s Life will be held at 11:30am on Friday July 26, 2019 at Walnut Hill Community Church, 156 Walnut Hill Rd., Bethel, CT.
