Obituary of Laura McAllister

Laura “Sissie” McAllister the daughter of Willie C. and Elizabeth Aldridge, was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA. She lived happily with her mother, father, and siblings until shortly after her father passed away in 1953. She and her siblings then moved in with her grandmother and grandfather, John and Sadie Groves.

She was baptized and joined the Miller Memorial Baptist Church, where she was faithful in attendance at Sunday school and Church services until she relocated to Long Island, New York to live with her Aunt Francis on her father’s side. She relocated a few more times, but returned to Philadelphia. She was married once, but separated shortly afterwards and the marriage ended in the untimely death of Phillip M. McAllister.

Sissie had two children, Donald T. Aldridge and Laura Aldridge III, known as “Lollypop”. In the early 1990’s, she and her daughter relocated to Danbury, CT. She remained in close contact with her brother Johnny and relocated her mother to Danbury when he moved to California.

Sissie met new friends in Danbury and enjoyed living there. She started attending Trinity Church under Rev. Bush. Among those she met in Danbury, was Milton Williams, known as “Mummy”. Sissie and Mummy formed a very close and loving relationship. She was a hard worker, in general, and dedicated to her employers.

When she was away from work, she loved to cook and enjoyed having a good time with her newly-found friends and family members of Mummy. There wasn’t anything she wouldn’t do for them. Hardly was there a moment she didn’t have a smile on her face. She loved Mummy dearly, and they traveled together to just about everywhere until her unexpected death. Their last ride in the car together was Friday, January 4th, 2019. She went into the hospital for a colonoscopy procedure and never came home. She was the best partner a person could have.

Sissie is survived by her two children, eight grandchildren, five great grandchildren, one sister Lisa, one brother Johnny, sister-in-law Karen, brother-in-law Maurice, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, her life companion Mummy of 30 years and a host of his family members.
