Obituary of Manuel Correia

Mr. Manuel “Manny” Correia, age 87, of Danbury, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his loving family and grandchildren, on Saturday January 5, 2019. He was the husband, for 63 years, of Rosemarie (Pliego) Correia.

Mr. Correia was born in Danbury on July 26, 1931 son of the late Jose and Maria Jose (Bernadino) Correia. He was the owner of Standard Dry Cleaners and Formal Fashions in Danbury for over 30 years and was a founding member of Nutmeg Federal Bank where he served on the Board of Directors for many years. He was a member of the Portuguese Cultural Center and loved dancing and music.

Mr Correia proudly served his country as a medic in the United States Army during the Korean War, having been stationed in Korea.

In addition to his wife Rosemarie, Mr Correia is survived by his children: Richard Correia and his wife Deborah of Danbury, Cynthia Dean and her husband David of Myrtle Beach, S.C. and Carolyn Millard and her husband LeRoy “Boe’ of Danbury, his grandchildren: Jayce, Brad, Kyle, Steven, Mathew, Cameron, and Amber, his great grandchildren: Bryce, Jaxon and Gage and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Correia’s family will receive relatives and friends at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White St., Danbury on Thursday January 10, 2019 from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Danbury on Thursday January 10, 2019 at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Peter’s  Cemetery in Danbury.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
