Obituary of Gerald Edward Flanagan

Gerald E. Flanagan, age 69, of Brookfield, passed into eternity Sunday November 25, 2018 surrounded by the love of family and friends. He was the devoted husband, for 47 years, of Terri (Massaro) Flanagan.

Gerry was born June 12, 1949 in Bronx, New York, son of the late John and Muriel (Hall) Flanagan. He was a graduate of Monsignor Scanlon High School in Bronx, New York and retired in 2007 after working for over 39 years at Con Edison. He was a charter, organizing member, since 1977, of the Valley Presbyterian Church in Brookfield and a member of the Beaver Brook Volunteer Fire Department in Danbury, having served as Chief for 22 years and retiring in 2009.

A kind and gentle man with quick wit, Gerry treasured time spent with friends, especially around the table sharing a meal.  He loved cruising and looked forward to regaining mobility so that he could be back on the Queen Mary.  He collected model trains and had a huge Lionel layout set up in his basement where he spent many hours tinkering with the stock which he loved showing off to visitors, young and young-at-heart. He enjoyed classic cars, going to cruise nights, inspecting the cars and chatting with fellow enthusiasts.  Gerry had a special place in his heart for animals and was happy visiting with furry friends, especially fur-baby Slash, his favorite kitty.

In addition to his beloved wife, Terri, Gerry is survived by his sister, Patricia McElligott and her husband John of New City, New York; his nieces, Kristin (McElligott) Fuchs, her husband Mike and their children Finleigh and Braden, and Deirdre (McElligott) Jones, her husband George and their children Caden and Owen. He will also be sorely missed by his cousins and many dear friends including the LeRose and Nero families.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday December 1, 2018 at 11 a.m. at the Valley Presbyterian Church, 21 West Whisconier Road, Brookfield.  Burial will be at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours.
