Obituary of Albert A. Messina, Sr.

Mr. Albert A. Messina, Sr., age 90, of Danbury, died Monday October 15, 2018 at his home, surrounded by his wife, Livia (DiStaola) Messina, and loving family.

Mr. Messina was born November 23, 1927 in Mt. Vernon, New York. He was son of the late Louis and Antoinette (Bonomolo) Messina. He was a retired Supervisor of the Mt. Vernon Fire Alarm Bureau and was a communicant of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church in Danbury. He served as a Boy Scout Leader and also as a Little League coach, having coached championship teams in Mt. Vernon, N.Y. He also enjoyed working with computers and technology.

Mr. Messina proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army during the Korean War.

In addition to his wife Livia, Mr. Messina is survived by his children: Louis Paul Messina and Karen of New Rochelle, N.Y., Barbara A. Caldararo and her husband Anthony of Yorktown, N.Y., Richard John Messina and his wife Jacqueline of East Northport, Long Island, Albert A. Messina, Jr. and his wife Tara of Southbury, CT and Francis A. Messina and his wife Michelle of New Milford,CT, his brother: John Messina of Nanuet, N.Y., 8 grandchildren , 1 great grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Messina’s family will receive relatives and friends at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White St. Danbury on Wednesday October 17, 2108 from 4 to 8 p.m. A funeral mass will be held on Thursday October 18, 2018  at 10 a.m. at St. Peter Roman Catholic Church in Danbury. Burial with full military honors will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, New York.
