Obituary of Frank J. Briscoe, Jr.

Frank J. Briscoe, Jr., age 88, of Bethel, died Thursday, September 20, 2018, at Danbury Hospital, after a brief illness.  He was married to his highschool sweetheart, Elizabeth “Betty” (Stelzel) Briscoe for 64 years. 

Mr. Briscoe was born August 22, 1930, in Bronx, New York, son of the late Frank J., Sr., and Beryl (Howard) Briscoe.  He was retired from Perkin Elmer as an electrical engineer.  He was Deputy Director of the Hubble Space Telescope and Director and General Manager of Optical Operations.  Frank was instrumental in his involvement with the Apollo 13 Crisis. 

He was a parishioner of St. Mary Roman Catholic Church where he participated in the church choir, Knights of Columbus, several musical productions and served as president of the Home School Association of St. Mary School. 

Frank was a master painter, avid reader, and loved all movies and films.  He was a true Renaissance man.  His interests and knowledge were boundless and he saw beauty in everything. 

He proudly served his Country as a member of the United States Signal Corps from 1952 to 1954. 

In addition to his wife, Betty, he is survived by his children, Mary Raymond (Gary), Lisa Plumb (Bob), Bub Briscoe (Marlyn), and Sean Briscoe (Marcey); his brother Robert Briscoe (Sharyn); his grandchildren, Lauren, Drew, Kelsey, Shane and McKenna Raymond, Bobby, Ashley, Brandy, and Tyler Plumb, Spencer, Maxx, and Luke Briscoe, Grace and Ben Briscoe; his great grandchildren, Maddie and Ava Aube, Jackson and Katherine Plumb; and several nieces and nephews. 

He was predeceased by his sister, Gloria Sengstacken. 

The family will receive friends on Monday September 24, 2018 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday September 25, 2018 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Roman Catholic Church in Bethel. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Bethel with full military honors.

 

Relatives and friends are asked to please meet directly at the church.
