Obituary of Sr. Margaret Ann Smith, SSND
Sister Margaret Ann Smith, a member of the School Sisters of Notre Dame, died on September 19, 2018, at Villa Notre Dame in Wilton, Conn., at age 82.
Margaret Ann Smith was born on November 15, 1935, in New York City, the daughter of Patrick Joseph Smith of County Longford, Ireland, and Mary Terese
McGuire of Woodford, County Galway, Ireland.
After pronouncing her vows as a School Sister of Notre Dame in 1955, she began teaching at St. Ann’s School in Baltimore. She also taught at Catholic
schools in Rochester, New York, Lake Ronkonkoma, Long Island, and Brooklyn, N.Y. She enrolled in nurse’s training in 1969, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in
Yonkers, NY. Later, as an R.N., she worked at Victory Memorial Hospital and Veterans Hospital ln Brooklyn.
In her retirement Sister resided at Villa Notre Dame in Wilton. The community Mass will be offered for Peggy on September 24.
