Obituary of Geraldine E. Danion
Geraldine E. Danion, 80, a resident of Maplewood at Stony Hill in Bethel, passed away on July 29, 2018 when she was called home by the Lord.
Geri was born on May 31, 1938 at Waterbury Hospital to Harold and Ardeal Tatro. After growing up in Roxbury, Geri moved to New York to study Radiologic Technology at New York Hospital at Cornell College. It is there she met and married Jim McConnon, moved to Connecticut and raised three daughters. Later she met and married Leo Danion and enjoyed 25 years of love and laughter until his passing in 2013.
Geri spent decades working at Danbury Hospital in the Radiology Department. She loved her work, her colleagues, and her patients. After her retirement she worked part time at Housatonic Valley Radiological Associates.
When Geri wasn’t taking care of her family she would retreat to her garden where she surrounded herself with quiet nature and tended the plants she lovingly cared for. She found a great sanctuary and peace with the landscape on her beloved Pine Hill and she spent many happy hours there. She said gardening taught great patience and also a healthy respect for poison ivy.
Geri is survived by daughters Katie (Craig) Taschner, Mary Fisher, Jennifer (Evan) Bernstein, Christine Danion, and Catherine (Dan) Bollacke and her grandchildren, Rachel, Zachary, Amanda, Jeffrey and Jordan. Her sister Margaret (Josef) Unfried, and brother Robert (June) Tatro as well as several nieces and nephews.
A mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Gregory the Great, 85 Great Plain Rd, Danbury on Saturday, August 4 at 11 am.
There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to St. Jude’s Hospital.
Geri’s family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Maplewood at Stony Hill and Regional Hospice for their excellent care.
