Obituary of Phyllis Margaret Knecht
Phyllis Margaret (Elwell) Knecht, 76, of New Milford, died at Candlewood Valley Health and Rehabilitation Center on Tuesday, March 20, 2018. She was born in Danbury on July 18, 1941, daughter of the late Weldon and Margaret (Smigala) Elwell.
She was a graduate of Danbury High School and Danbury Hospital School of Nursing. Phyllis was a RN, working as a surgical nurse for Danbury Hospital and Danbury Surgical Center. She was also a talented organist who played for many area churches. She was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Danbury. Her hobbies included crocheting and knitting. She also enjoyed camping on Columbus Day weekend in Vermont with her extended family. Phyllis adored her grandchildren and was happiest spending time with them.
She will be sadly missed by her two children, Douglas Clifford Knecht and Alyson Margaret Bowman; her four grandchildren, Silbina Margaret and Leianna Grace Knecht, and Trevor Philip and Kaitlyn Margaret Bowman; her sister, Cynthia Stone and her husband, Richard; her sister-in-law, Jill Elwell; and many nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, David Elwell.
Funeral services will be held at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White St., Danbury, on Thursday, March 29 at noon. Burial will follow in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home between 11:00 a.m. and noon. Memorial contributions in her memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
