Obituary of Marshall Phillip Roth

Marshall Phillip Roth, beloved father, son and brother, died Jan. 23, 2018 after a car accident Christmas Day. He was 53 years old.  Born in Danbury Oct. 8, 1964, he lived in Torrington for the past nine years.

Marshall was a kind, generous, and tolerant man of faith and spirituality who believed in the inherent goodness of others. He never hesitated to help a friend or family member -- or stranger for that matter -- in any way he could.  His friends describe Marshall as the kind of person they would chose to hang around the dugout with. Everyone wanted to be with Marshall. He will be remembered for his intelligence, good humor and positive personality.

The center of Marshall's world was his 10-year-old son, Dylan. He lived to be with "The Monk," (Dylan's nickname). The inseparable duo enjoyed many adventures together, including trips to NYC, the Great Wolf Lodge, and to Vermont to visit Marshall's sister.

Marshall graduated from Danbury High School class of 1982 and was chosen by his peers to be class speaker. He graduated from Western Connecticut State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Justice and Law Administration. Marshall worked at Danbury Hospital for 24 years in the pharmacy department where he met his future wife, Dara.  He also, worked for Middlesex Hospital in Middletown.  Most recently, he was a clinical systems analyst at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson, N.Y., where he made lasting relationships with his co-workers.

Marshall will be watching over his son, Dylan Marshall Roth of Oxford. Also surviving him are his parents, Lucille Grapkosky Roth of Danbury, and Robert C. Roth of Danbury. Marshall was the youngest of five. He leaves behind his sisters, Alison C. Roth of Perkinsville, Vt.; Valerie Roth of Danbury; June Billings and her husband, Paul, of Danbury; his brother, Kevin Roth and his wife, Irene, of Danbury. He is also survived by his niece, Elizabeth Billings, and his nephew, Daniel Roth, several cousins, and his former wife and dear friend (Dylan's mom), Dara Saczawa of Oxford. Marshall loved his family and made each and every one of them feel special.

If there was one word to sum up what Marshall felt about life, it was gratitude. He was grateful for every day and urged others to be, too.

A funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 31 at 9:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart of
Jesus Church, 12 Cottage St., Danbury. Family and friends are asked meet directly at the church. A reception will follow in the church hall.

Instead of flowers, please perform an unexpected act of kindness to a person in need in  Marshall's memory.
