Obituary of John Joseph Bacich

John Joseph Bacich passed away on Friday, November 20th at the Alzheimer's Resource Center in Plantsville.  He was born in Staten Island, New York on December 15, 1928, the eldest of two sons of Christopher and Doris Bacich. 

 

A 1951 graduate of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, John abided by the motto of the Academy, "Acta Non Verba" (deeds not words), throughout his life. He served his country during the Korean War aboard the LST 854 as Chief Engineering Officer. 

 

Upon discharge, he began a long career as an engineer, initially with Sperry Corp.  After relocating his family from Long Island to Brookfield in 1969, John continued his career with Perkin-Elmer where he found personal and professional satisfaction in being part of the team that worked at the heart of the Hubble Space Telescope project.  John also held several U.S. Patents for devices he developed while at Perkin-Elmer and later SVG. 

 

John loved his family, his boat (the "Wee Six"), building furniture, fixing cars, wood carving, repairing broken things, sports, and discussing politics. 

 

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Kathleen of Brookfield; three daughters, Cathleen and Nancy of New York City, and Jacqueline of San Francisco; a son, Christopher of New Milford; and five cherished grandchildren, Ali, Jordan, Hillary, Shannon, and Matthew.  He is also survived by a brother, Rudolf of Manchester, NJ. 

 

He was predeceased by his daughter, Lisa. 

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, November 28th at 10:00am at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Church in Brookfield.  Burial will St. Peter Cemetery will be at a later date. 

 

In lieu of flowers, we ask that a donation be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
