Obituary of Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Repko
Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Repko, 92, of Danbury, beloved wife of the late James J. Repko, Sr., died peacefully at Hancock Hall on Thursday, November 9th. She was born in Danbury on September 18, 1925, daughter of the late Edward G. and Ruth (Temple) Egan. She was a graduated from Danbury High School and Oberlin College with a degree in Music Education.
Betty’s love of music inspired her career as a music teacher in the Stamford and Ridgefield public schools. She was an avid skier and enjoyed skiing well into her 70’s. She also enjoyed golf, bowling and playing Bridge.
Betty was a lifelong parishioner of St. Joseph Church in Danbury, a longtime member of the social group, the Mugwumps, and was a past member of the Ridgewood Country Club. Her happiest moments were spent with her family and friends.
She will be sadly missed by her five children, James J. Repko, Jr. and his life partner, Cindy Sue, Catherine Repko Rickard and her husband, Steve, Marybeth Manley and her husband, Jim, Joan Hefferan and her husband, Tom, and Donna Repko Schewe and her husband, Jim; her eleven grandchildren, Alexandra Kitchen (Peter), Hannah Elwyn (Jonny), Catherine and Hilary Repko, Conor Manley, Elizabeth Epstein (Sam), Mary Claire and Margaret Manley, Allison, Michael and Tommy Hefferan; and her two great grandchildren, Madelyn and Caleb.
She was predeceased by her sister, Ruth Maselbas.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, November 13th at 1:00pm at St. Joseph Church in Danbury. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury, on Sunday, November 12th between the hours of 2:00 – 5:00pm.
In keeping with Betty’s devotion to her church and love of music, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her memory may be made to St. Joseph Church or the Danbury Music Center.
Her family wishes to express their sincere appreciation for the loving care she received from the staff of Hancock Hall and the Gardens, with special thanks to Belkis Reyes, Roma Clarke, Polita Keme, and Trish Maloney.
