Obituary of Donald Joseph Martin
Donald J. Martin, age 92 of Brookfield, died on January 8th at Glen Hill Center, Danbury. He was the husband of Henriette (Pelletier) Martin.
Donald was born in Rumford, Maine on December 16, 1923.He was the son of John Martin and Annie “Pearl” Brideau, both of whom passed away several years ago.
Donald was married to Henriette Pelletier Martin on October 6, 1947; they were married 68 years. They raised a family of eight children.
He worked as an accountant and office manager for Chevron Chemical Company for 24 years. He loved his country, the US Marines, all things nature, and his home state of Maine.
Donald is survived by his wife Henriette, and seven of their children: Dennis of Naperville,Il.; Daniel of Barefoot Bay Florida; Tom of Greendell, NJ; JoAnn Martin Corsaro of Bridgewater, NJ; Bill of Mt Kisco, NY; Elaine Barbera Martin of New Fairfield, CT; and Mark of Danbury, CT; along with spouses and life partners; 8 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law Marcy Tabisz Martin, wife of his predeceased eldest son James of Southern Shores, NC.
Donald is also preceded in death by his parents, a brother Johnny, and three sisters Frances, Laura and Hazel.
Donald was particularly proud of his service in the Pacific as a member of the 2nd U.S. Marine Division during World War II. In addition to being awarded the Bronze Star in 1944 for heroism or meritorious achievement on ground combat, he was awarded ten additional medals and numerous citations.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am on Saturday January 16th at Saint Joseph Church, Brookfield, CT. Donald’s remains will be held by his family for interment at a later date. The Brookfield Funeral Home 786 Federal Road, Brookfield is in charge of arrangements
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to Alzheimer’s Association at ALZ.org or at P.O. Box 96011 Washington, DC 20090-6011; or to a charity of one’s choice.
