Obituary of Dorothy A. Avallone

Dorothy A. Avallone August 13, 1915 - January 11, 2005 Dorothy Avallone of Brookfield, returned to God Tuesday January 11, 2005 at Danbury Hospital with her children at her bedside. Dorothy was 89 years of age. She was born Dorothy Janders, the daughter of the late Lloyd and Anna Janders on August 13, 1915 in New York, New York. She was a graduate of Yonkers High School and Miller Secretarial School in Manhattan. She was employed by Texaco and Crucible Steel in Manhattan. Dorothy was Secretary to the Director of the School of Nursing, Westchester Medical Center, Valhalla, NY. until her retirement in 1978 at which time she moved to Brookfield. Dorothy married Lawrence J. Avallone, USMC on her birthday, August the 13th in 1942. She was predeceased by her husband in 1960. Dorothy loved to cook, travel, read and sew. She is survived by her three children, her son, Larry Avallone and his wife, Loumay of Brookfield; son, Paul and wife Sandy of New Smyrna Beach, Florida and her loving Daughter and best friend, Dorothy of Brookfield as well as four grandchildren and two great granddaughters. Dorothy was a strong and courageous woman. She will be truly missed. Funeral Information A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am on Saturday, January 15th at St. Joseph Church, Brookfield. Burial in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Valhalla, NY., will follow. The family will receive friends at the Brookfield Funeral Home, 786 Federal Road, Brookfield, on Thursday, January 13th between the hours of 2-4pm and 7-9pm and on Friday, January 14th between the hours of 2- 4pm and 7 - 9pm.
