Obituary of Margaret Elwell

Margaret (Smigala) Elwell July 14, 1917 - January 14, 2004 Margaret (Smigala) Elwell, 86, of Padanaram Road, Danbury, was reunited with her husband, the late Weldon E. Elwell, on Wednesday, January 14th. She was born in the family home on William Street, Danbury, on July 14, 1917, daughter of the late Ferdinand and Margaret (Ricktarcick) Smigala. She was a graduate of Immanuel Lutheran School and Danbury High, Class of 1935. Margaret was secretary to Mr. Hanson in the Department of Research and Planning for Western Connecticut State Univ. for 14 years, retiring in 1983. Prior to that she worked as bookkeeper for 27 years with D.G. Penfield Co. in Danbury. Margaret was a lifetime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, and taught Sunday School there for more than 40 years. She was a member of the Mr. & Mrs. Club and sang in the church choir. She enjoyed being involved in many of the church organizations until illness curtailed her activities. She will be sadly missed by her loving son, David W. Elwell and his wife, Jill, of Old Lyme; cherished daughters, Phyllis Knecht of Danbury, and Cynthia Stone and her husband, Richard, of Bridgeport; her five grandsons, one granddaughter, and two great grandsons. She is also survived by a brother, Edward Smigala and his wife, Ruth of Danbury, sister-in-law, Ilse Smigala of Southbury, as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, Weldon, she was predeceased by twelve brothers and sisters. Funeral Information Funeral Services will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 26 West Street, Danbury, on Saturday, January 17th at 11:00am with Reverend Daniel Wehmeier, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury on Friday, January 16th between the hours of 5 and 8pm.
