Obituary of Rose Caldora

Rose Caldora March 11, 1919 - October 28, 2003 Rose (Costello) Caldora, 84, of Danbury, devoted wife of Gino Caldora, died on Tuesday, October 28, 2003 at Danbury Hospital. She was born in Berryburg, W. Va. On March 11, 1919, daughter of the late Guy and Philomena (Licari) Costello. Rose, affectionately known as "Dixie" to old friends, came to Danbury in 1944 where she met her husband to be, Gino. They were married September 23, 1946, and spent 57 years together as husband and wife. She worked as a floor lady for the Frank Lee Co. in Danbury from 1945 to 1946. Once married she stayed home and made a beautiful home and life for her family. In 1961 she began working part-time in the jewelry department at Caldor and retired after 22 years. Many people still remember her from there because of her beautiful smile and friendliness. Rose was an unconditionally kind person, who loved her family deeply. She was known as "Grammy" to her grandchildren. When they were little she told them endless stories of "Andy the Frog" who lived under her deck. She loved needlepoint. Many of her pictures are hung in her home and show the patience, love of color and creativity that was always in her mind. Rose is survived by her husband, Gino; two daughters, Jean Caldora and Judith Dalsgaard; three grandchildren, Toby Dalsgaard, Nicholas Just, and Molly Rose Just. She is also survived by four of her twelve siblings, Julia Kunic of Danbury, Delores Jones of Simsbury, Richard Costello and Helena Brant both of W. Va.; as well as several nieces and nephews. Funeral Information A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, October 31st, 10:00am, at St. Gregory the Great Church, Danbury with burial to follow in St. Peter Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury, between the hours of 5 and 8pm.
