Martha Merwin Burr of Brookfield, CT died unexpectedly at home on Saturday, August 7, 2010 at the age of 71.
Born in Norwalk, CT, April 7, 1939 to Timothy & Gertrude (Reynolds) Merwin. She graduated from Staples High School in Wesport. She along with her husband Phillip ran the Burr Farm dairy until the mid seventies at which time she was employed by Beers Answering Service, then Thomas Refuse Service and for the last 18 years at WeCAHR in Danbury, CT, where she was a strong advocate for children & adults with disabilities. She was very active in many community organizations including the Brookfield Republican Town Committee & the Brookfield Planning Commission. She was a long time 4-H leader and volunteer and active on the Fairfield County Extension Council. She was an active member of Newbury Congregational Church, serving as Moderator, Deacon and Sunday School Teacher.
Martha is survived by her daughters Bonnie & Christine Burr; daughter Becky Petro & her husband Jeremy, all of Brookfield. She is also survived by her brother Tim Merwin and his wife Virginia; brother in laws & sister in laws, Howard Fales, Ray & Judy Burr, Don & Ruth Burr, Jay & Donna Burr, Marji & Dick Carmody, Millie Burr, Marilyn Ober and many nieces, nephews, grand nieces & grand nephews.
Martha was predeceased by her husband Phillip, sisters Alice Fales & Jane Merwin and brother-in laws Larry Burr & Murrell Ober. Funeral Information
A memorial service will be held at 5 pm on Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at Newbury Congregational Church, 126 Tower Rd., Brookfield, CT. Donations Information
