Wm. Steven Weise
October 14, 1950 - December 14, 2014 Wm. Steven Weise
Wm. Steven Weise, 64, of New Fairfield, husband of Heidi (Jones) Weise, died suddenly at Danbury Hospital on Sunday, December 14th. He was born in Neptune, NJ on October 14, 1950, son of the late William H. and Marian (LeFrank) Weise.
Steve grew up in Spring Lake Heights, attended Spring Lake Heights Elementary School and graduated from Manasquan High School, Class of 1968. He was active as a thespian, musician, scholar, athlete, and an Eagle Scout with a God and Country Award. He was a ranked Middle States Tennis player and a gymnast. Steve was a great lover of music. He played the drums in the Manasquan High School marching and concert bands, in local bands as a teenager and throughout his years at The Naval Academy.
His early love for flying with his Dad sent him on to graduate from The United States Naval Academy, Class of '73. During his naval career, he served as a flight instructor at Pensacola Naval Air Station in Florida. He also was stationed in Maine at Brunswick Naval Air Station as a pilot flying the P-3, an anti-submarine warfare aircraft. His duties put him on the front line of defense of the United States during the cold war in identifying and tracking Soviet submarines in the Atlantic. While stationed in Maine, he met his wife, Heidi. Following his active duty Naval career, he became a career pilot and Captain with American Airlines, and he continued flying as a Commander with the U.S. Navy Reserves.
Throughout his entire life, Steve was always the entertainer. Whether it was walking on his hands or telling a quick witted pun, he loved to make people smile. Steve was also a collector of celebrity autographs and he had many from his flights to and from NYC-LA. He enjoyed buying, fixing, and reselling antiques, collectibles and electronics.
In recent years, Steve enjoyed working for Lowes in Danbury, where he had many friends.
In addition to his wife of 36 years, Heidi, he will be sadly missed by his two daughters, Stefanie Cole and her husband, Patrick of Trumbull, and Grace Weise of New Fairfield; and his grandson, Jameson Cole. He is also survived by his three brothers, Michael and his wife, Gail, Robert and his wife, Catherine, and Daniel and his wife, Gloria; his two sisters, Billie Ellen Weise and Gretchen Wolff and her husband, Robert; as well as many nieces and nephews.
