Obituary of Edward J. Smigala

Edward J. Smigala July 24, 1919 - March 22, 2005 Edward J. Smigala, 85, of Aaron Samuels Boulevard, Danbury, devoted husband of Ruth Mae (Quaas) Smigala, died at Danbury Hospital on Tuesday, March 22, 2005. He was born in the family home at 19 William Street, on July 24, 1919, son of the late Ferdinand, Sr., and Margaret (Ricktarick) Smigala. He was a graduate of Immanuel Lutheran School. Eddie was a Veteran of World War II serving with the United States Army on Ascension Island, and in Eastern Europe. He was a recipient of the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and the American Defense Service Medal. As a young man Eddie worked as a hatter for Mallory Hat Co; later as a framer for Castro Convertible, and Barden Corporation. He retired in 1985 as a Custodian for Western Connecticut State University. He was a lifetime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Danbury and enjoyed membership in the VFW. Eddie loved his home, his gardens, and spending time with his family. He will be sadly missed. In addition to his wife of 54 years, Ruth, he is survived by his cherished daughter, Cheryl and her husband Douglas McDowell of Bristol; his two granddaughters, Lindsey and Kelly McDowell; his sister-in-law, Ilse Smigala of Southbury; and his sister-in-law, Marjorie and her husband Arthur Bohan of Danbury. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by thirteen brothers and sisters. Funeral Information Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, March 26th at 11:00am at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Danbury with Reverend Walt Harper officiating. Burial in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery will follow. The family will receive friends at the church between the hours of 10:00 and 11:00am on Saturday, March 26th.
