Obituary of Walter James Sheppard

Walter James Sheppard June 27, 1926 - August 07, 2004 Walter James Sheppard, age 78 of Willow Pond Road, Danbury, husband of, Patricia (Earlis) Sheppard, closed his weary eyes for the final time and placed himself in the hands of God on August 7, 2004. Walter was born in the Bronx on June 27, 1926 the son of the late John and Johanna (Schepert) Kowceniuk. He lived a hard life during the depression. Walter enlisted in the Navy in World War II and served on the Bon Homme Richard. He was a very proud and patriotic American. Walter began his career in the Meat Packing Industry, employed by Famous Packing Company for 35 years as a wholesale butcher. He was known to many as the "Corned Beef King". After his retirement as a butcher, he was employed by the Yorktown School District as a head custodian. While there for 10 years he received numerous awards and recognitions for his fine work and dedication. He was a spirited man with strong hard working ethics. Mr. Sheppard was a member of the VFW Post 149, and also the American Legion both of Danbury and never missed marching in a Memorial Day Parade. Walter enjoyed spending time with family, and enjoyed cooking and gardening in his spare time. He was Catholic by faith and a member of St. Peter's Church in Danbury. Walter will be sorely missed for the life, humor, and extreme sensitivity he brought to his family circle. He leaves behind his wife, Patricia. Two Daughters: Karen (Jack) Maroney of Vero Beach, Florida and Debra (Robert) Geary of Bethel, CT. Three Grandchildren: Danielle (Jason) Howley and Sean and Patrick Geary all of Bethel, Connecticut. One Great Grandchild: Jaidyn Howley of Bethel, CT. and Numerous nieces and nephews. Walter is preceeded in Death in by his parents, and one Brother, Eugene Sheppard. Funeral Information Friends may call at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury on Wednesday from 2:00 - 4:00 & 7:00 - 9:00. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peter's Church , Danbury on Thursday at 10:00 with interment following at St. Peter Cemetery where there will be full Military Honors.
