Obituary of William J. Shaw

William J. Shaw March 25, 1925 - August 19, 2004 William Joseph Francis Shaw age 79 of Middle River, Danbury died on August 19, 2004 at Danbury Hospital. Mr. Shaw was the husband of Joan Anna (Jelinek) Shaw also of Danbury. William was born on March 15, 1925 the son of the late Joseph and Gertrude (Miner) Shaw in the Bronx. He attended and graduated from Roosevelt High School in Yonkers, New York. On June 13, 1953 he married Joan and they spent 51 years of happy marriage together. During World War II Mr. Shaw was stationed in India while serving in the Army Medical Corps. He was the recipient of the American Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, and the WWII Victory Medal. William worked for Lindquist Supply in his early years and then went to work for Hamilton Avnet where he was employed as a Warehouse Manager until his retirement in 1981. William was known for his great love of his family. His favorite past times were building stone walls, landscaping, and gardening. He was an avid New York Yankees Fan. Mr. Shaw will be sadly missed by his wife Joan and one son: Russell Shaw of Danbury. three daughters: Carolyn Rodden of Saratoga Springs, New York, Elizabeth Shaw of Bethel, CT. and Victoria and her husband Brandon Michalek of Danbury, CT. Seven Grandchildren: Samantha Shaw, Lauren Kohut, Christopher Rodden, Matthew Rodden, Brendan Shaw, Alec Belardinelli, and Zachary Michalek and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Besides his parents William is preceded in death by one sister: Dorothy Robertson. Funeral Information Funeral Services for William will be held on Monday, August 23, 2004 at 10:00AM at the Valley Presbyterian Church in Brookfield with interment following in Wooster Cemetery in Danbury. Friends may call at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury, CT 06810 on Sunday from 2:00PM - 4:00PM & 7:00PM - 9:00PM.
