Obituary of Joseph Edward Saunders

Joseph Edward Saunders October 18, 1946 - August 17, 2004 Joseph E. Saunders Age 57 of Danbury, Connecticut died on August 17, 2004 at Danbury Hospital. Mr. Saunders was the husband of Barbara A. (Soderstrom) Saunders. He was born in Boston, MA on October 18, 1946 son of the late Joseph and Helen (Roy) Saunders. He was raised in Brooklyn, NY and graduated from Brooklyn College. Joseph enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1968 and served on the USS Calcaterra and was decorated with the National Defense Service Ribbon. He was honorably discharged in 1973. Joseph was a Financial Analyst for Texaco Inc. for over 30 years and retired in 2001. He was a member of St. Gregory the Great Church and the Old Timers Brooklyn Stickball Club. He served many years as a coach for DAYO baseball and football teams and various youth hockey teams. Besides his loving wife of 31 years, he is survived by his devoted children, Derek Michael Saunders and Denise Laughinghouse, and her husband Jason, beloved Grandson Jake Laughinghouse and special "granddog" Oatmeal all of Danbury; a sister Diane Sternbach and her husband Rick of Valley Village, CA; his niece Kristen Sternbach and several other nieces and nephews. Joseph was preceded in death by his son Michael Joseph. Funeral Information A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, August 21, 2004 at 10:00AM at St. Gregory the Great Church in Danbury, CT. Interment will follow at St. Peter Cemetery with Military Honors. Friends may call at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury, CT 06810 on Thursday from 7:00PM - 9:00 PM and Friday from 2:00PM - 4:00PM and 7:00PM - 9:00PM.
