Bernard J. Sauer, 61, of Pembroke Ave, Waterbury, devoted husband of Fayleen J. Burdick, died at Waterbury Hospital on Wednesday, April 21st. He was born in Waterbury on October 10, 1942, son of Bernard J. Sauer, Sr. and the late Ann (Dwyer) Sauer. He was a lifetime member of the Waterbury community.
Mr. Sauer worked as a machine operator for Kimberly Clark, New Milford, retiring in 1997 after 24 years of service. He was an avid New York Yankees fan, never missing a game. He loved traveling and riding in the car, enjoyed the outdoors, and spending time with his Grandchildren. He was also known to family and friends as a funny practical joker.
Bernie leaves to survive his father of Palm Harbor, Fla., he is also survived by his daughters, Ann Margaret Rousseau, Doreen Marie Sauer, and Joy Ann Sauer, all of Waterbury; Six Step Children: Paul (Doreen) VanValkenburgh of Bethel, CT, Kevin (Judy) Vanvalkenburgh of Florida, Karen (Alan) Machado of New Milford, CT, Laura VanValkenburgh of Bethel, CT, Machelle (Steve) Pryor of New Milford, Ct, and Sherry ValValkenburgh of Waterbury, CT. He is also survived by numerous Grandchildren and step-Grandchildren and two brothers, Michael Sauer of Kent, and Charles Sauer of Palm Harbor, Fla.; as well as several nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Cornell Memorial Home 247 White Street, Danbury on Friday from 4:00 - 7:00 with Parish Prayers at 5:00. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday May 26, 2004 at the Cornell Memorial Home with Rev. Dr. Laura Ahrens of St. James Episcopal Church officiating at 10:00AM. Interment will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery. Donations Information
