Obituary of Edward C. O'Connell

Edward C. O'Connell May 14, 1932 - July 16, 2005 Edward Cummings O'Connell, age 73, of West Palm Beach, FL and Danbury, died peacefully on Saturday, July 16 at Danbury Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Margaret (Fransen) O'Connell. Edward was born in Poughkeepsie, NY on May 14, 1932, a son of the late Edward and Nancy (Reed) O'Connell. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict and was awarded 4 service medals. Edward was a graduate of Paul Smith's College with an Associate Degree in Applied Sciences; in 1957 he received a BS in Business Administration from FSU. He was a partner in the White Turkey Inn. He was also a licensed real estate broker for over 25 years serving in management training, sales & appraisals, retiring from Goodfellow-Ashmore only 10 years ago. An avid tennis player, boat show winner, artist and gardner. He earned a Master Gardner Certificate from UCONN. He was a parishioner of St. Gregory the Great Church. In addition to his wife of 46 years, he is survived by beloved sons: Edward O'Connell and his wife Donna of Evansville, IN, Barry O'Connell and his wife Laura of Danbury; beloved daughters: Sharon Bodner and her husband Jim of Brookfield, Diane Silk of Rowe, MA, and Tracy Donohue of Danbury; a sister Susan Mahoney and her husband Thomas; six grandchildren: Amanda Silk, Stephanie, James & Emily Bodner, Edward O'Connell IV, Maggie Paige Donohue, and a great granddaughter: Fayth Lynn Bodner; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Mary Ann Belanger and brother, Daniel O'Connell and grandson, Robert Silk. Funeral Information A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 20, 2005 at 10:00 AM at St. Gregory the Great Church. Cremation and burial of the ashes will take place at the convenience of the family. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 19, 2005 from 5:00 until 9:00pm at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White St., Danbury.
