Estelle Silos

A woman of strength has faith that it is in the journey that she will become strong” Author unknown. Estelle Silos leaned on faith throughout her life. An open- minded, inquisitive and tolerant person, she consistently served her church and welcomed people into her life, mentoring many.  She was the gentle breeze at your back encouraging you to overcome obstacles and reach your goals.

Estelle passed peacefully  at home on November 25, 2021. She was born in East Orange, NJ on March 22, 1925, a daughter of the late James J.  and Maria (Zerva) Georgis. During the depression, the family moved to Fairfield, CT; Estelle was a 1943 graduate of Roger Ludlowe H.S.  She married the love of her life Evangelos Silos in 1945; unfortunately, he died from a rare disease in 1957.

Estelle and her young son moved to the Greensboro area to be closer to family. She enrolled in Guilford College earning a BA in Education in1963 and began a 24-year career as an elementary school teacher. Estelle inspired people to learn both in and out of the classroom. She enjoyed traveling, reading, knitting, and socializing well into retirement. Estelle wanted us to remember her favorite quote from Kipling:” Who? What? Where? When? Why?”

She is survived by her grandson, Evangelos (Angie) and his wife Deborah of Burlington, great grandson William Silos; niece Barbara and her husband Bill Vaughan of Greensboro, with whom she made her home, goddaughter Julie Georgis of Germany, nephew Stephen Bartis and his wife, Pat of Gibsonville, niece Constance Bartis of Whittsett, niece Maria Barresi of Shelton, CT; several great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, her son Harry Silos, sister Helen Bartis and brother Nicholas Georgis.

The family would like to thank her faithful and loving caregivers, as well as, the staff and volunteers at the Well-Springs Solutions Connections Program.
