Ernst Struna

Ernst Struna, 84, of Brookfield, beloved husband of Trudy (Stieblei) Struna, died peacefully on Friday, December 14th at River Glen Health Care in Southbury. He was born in Altlag Gottschee, Yugoslavia (now Slovenia) on February 6, 1934, son of the late Josef and Albina (Koenig) Struna.

Ernie emigrated from Yugoslavia to the United States in 1951. He lived in Wyoming before resettling to Queens, NY in 1961 and eventually Brookfield in 1971. He was a Veteran in the United States Army from 1958 to 1960, and was stationed overseas in Germany. He attended Brooklyn Tech and worked as a field engineer for Oerlikon/Balzers for many years before starting his own business in 1992 from which he retired.

Ernie enjoyed boating on Candlewood Lake with family and friends, gardening and spending time outdoors. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. 

In addition to Trudy, his cherished wife of 49 years, he will be sadly missed by his sons, Alfred Struna and his wife, Darienne of Southbury, CT, and Sigmar Struna and Julie Bryer of Raleigh, NC; his granddaughters, Cassandra and Gabrielle Struna; and his brothers, Frank Struna and his wife, Margaret and Albert Struna. He was predeceased by his brother, John and sister, Hilda.

Funeral Services will be held at the Brookfield Funeral Home, 786 Federal Road, Brookfield, on Wednesday, December 19th at 10:30am with burial to follow in St. Peter Cemetery. 

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening between 5:00 - 7:00pm.
