Paul E. Melvin September 20, 1930 - November 28, 2003 Paul E. Melvin, 72, of Simeon Road, Bethel, died in his sleep on Friday, November 28th at his home. He was born in Danbury on September 20, 1939, son of the late James L., Sr. and Elizabeth (Chuvala) Melvin. He was a graduate of Bethel High School, Class of 1948 and was a member of the baseball and football teams. Paul enlisted in the United States Air Force in September 1948, serving our country in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1952. He was owner and operator of Melvin Paint Store on Greenwood Avenue in Bethel until it closed in 1973. He worked for Lezette Catering Service for several years after which he was chef at Bishop Curtis Homes until he retired in 2002. Paul was a longtime member of the Newtown Country Club and served for eight years as its president. In his younger years he enjoyed skydiving and was a certified pilot. He also enjoyed opera, Broadway Shows and the fine arts. He was an accomplished artist and regularly attended art classes at the Bethel Senior Center He will be greatly missed by his many friends. He is survived by his brothers, James Melvin of Bethel, Donald Melvin and his wife, Sandra, of Madison; his sister Rosemary and her husband, Donald Nani of Los Angeles, CA; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Richard Melvin. Funeral Information Funeral Services will be held at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury on Monday, December 1st at 12:00 Noon. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery, Danbury. Friends may call one hour prior to services on Monday.
