Obituary of Donald Franklin Kennen
Donald F. Kennen, 89, of Danbury, beloved husband of Elizabeth (Kornhaas) Kennen, died peacefully at his home on Wednesday, January 24, 2018. He was born in Derby on August 1, 1928, son of the late Charles and Eloise (Gorham) Kennen.
Mr. Kennen was a Veteran of the Korean War, proudly serving with the United States Army. He was a recipient of the Occupation Medal (Japan), Distinguished Unit Emblem, the Bronze Star Medal, the Korean Service Medal with 5 Bronze Stars, and 2 Overseas Bars.
He worked as a machinist for Amphenol, retiring after 41 years of employment. He was a member of the IBEW Union. After his retirement Don enjoyed spending time with his family, and took great pleasure creating special projects for his children and grandchildren in his workshop.
Don's hobbies included Stamp Collecting, woodworking, building models, and gardening. He will always be remembered for his gentle soul, and wonderful sense of humor.
In addition to his cherished wife of 63 years, Elizabeth, he will be sadly missed by his son, Timothy Kennen and his wife, Theresa; his daughter, Mary LaPenta and her husband, Gerald; his daughter-in-law, Susan Kennen; six grandchildren, Kristine Kennen-D’Amario and her husband, Adam, Jennifer Obuchowski and her husband, Daniel, Tyler Kennen and his wife, Kaitlyn, Troy Kennen and his fiancé Lindsey Wirsing, Ashley LaPenta, and Gerald LaPenta, IV; and two great grandchildren, Lina Rose and Eleanore Jane Obuchowski. He was predeceased by his son, D. Gregory Kennen.
The family would like to thank a very special niece Sue Morris for her weekly visits which Don always looked forward to.
Thank you to the Wohlken family, neighbors for 40 years, who have helped the family in many capacities throughout the years and thank you to his caregivers, Stella, Gladys, Claudia, Dilem, and Carmelina who treated Don with such great respect, and cared for him so gently.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, February 1st at 11:00am at St. Gregory the Great Church, 85 Great Plain Road, Danbury. Burial will take place in the spring.
