Obituary of Alan Steven Hohenshelt

Alan S. Hohenshelt, born July, 27, 1949, died December 18, 2017 at his home in Brookfield, after finally succumbing to an eight year battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) a rare, neurological disease. He is predeceased by his parents Stewart and Ellen Hohenshelt and his brother Edward Hohenshelt. He grew up in Jackson Heights, NY and remained a true New Yorker his entire life. Alan attended Queens College where he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree and The New School in Manhattan where he went on to earn a Master’s Degree both in Political Science.

He was employed by the New York City Transit Authority for 35 years first as a Transit Police Officer and over the course of his career held almost every position there was until he finally retired in 2008 as a scheduling manager.

His greatest joys, in addition to spending quality time with his family, were bodysurfing at the beach, ocean cruising and attending live oldies music concerts. He was an avid dog lover and spent countless hours volunteering at local animal rescue shelters. He loved playing softball, basketball and football and in particular was always fond of his former teams and teammates on the MTA Token Resistance as well as his college intramural team the Big E’s.

Alan is survived by his wife of 42 years Pamela, sons Steven (his wife Melissa) and Stewart (his wife Marlenys) and grandchildren Alicia and Paige as well as many other loving family members.
