Obituary of Mary S. Shurmanek
Mary Shurmanek passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at Danbury Hospital, Danbury, CT.
Born in Wilkes-Barre on February 7, 1920, she was the daughter of Stephen and Sophie (Janov) Rusnak.
Mary was a member of St. Therese’s Parish, Wilkes-Barre, until its closing, when she then became a member of St. Mary’s of the Immaculate Conception Parish. Since 2015 she lived with her daughter and was a member of St. Joseph’s Church, Brookfield, CT.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Shurmanek in 1989.
Surviving are her daughter Joan and son-in-law John Gillroy, Brookfield, CT; granddaughters Elizabeth, New York City, NY and Kathryn, Boston, MA. She is also survived by her sister, Irene Shelcusky, Manville, NJ and niece, Mary Shorts, Wilkes-Barre. She will be missed by her many nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral Services were held in Brookfield, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated for Mary at St. Joseph’s Church with Father George O’Neill officiating. Interment followed at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Dallas, PA.
