Obituary of William Tishion
William (Bill) Tishion, 85, of Danbury, passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at Glen Hill Center. Born and raised in Connecticut, the son of the late John and Ethel Winch Tishion, he was a lifelong resident of Danbury.
Bill graduated from Danbury High School in 1950 and spent the next three years proudly serving his country in the Air Force during the Korean War. After the service, Bill worked as a psychiatric aide at Fairfield Hills, where he met his former wife Elizabeth (Baker) Tishion. During their marriage, he attended computer school and worked as a computer hard frame operator, until his retirement.
During his earlier years, Bill enjoyed his time spent as a volunteer firefighter with the Beaver Brook Fire Department. He took pleasure in bowling, latch hook rug making, and watching his favorite sports teams: the New York Giants, the Yankees, and of course the UCONN Huskies. During his more senior years, he loved going to Almost Home, where he became known as the “Puzzle Man” because of his delight in working on jigsaw puzzles. He had a lifelong love affair with food, and it wasn’t beneath him to occasionally lick the plates. Of course, there was always room for dessert. Mostly, he took extreme pride in and was passionate about his children and grandchildren and their many accomplishments.
He will be missed by his children, Margaret Collischonn and her husband Eric of Cobleskill, NY; Lucinda White of Lakewood, CO; Colleen Dewan and her husband Dana of Danbury; Jane Noland and her husband David of Coffeyville, KS; James Tishion and his wife Tracy of Tucson, AZ; Amy Oldham and her partner Kathy Wilms of Danbury; and Elizabeth Kelly and her husband Phil of Simsbury; 12 grandchildren, Karl, Alice, and Heidi Collischonn; Lyndsey and Elizabeth White; Chelsea and Devon Dewan; Ashley Noland Cossentine and Melissa Noland; Patrick and Megan Tishion; Brooke Kelly; and one great grandson, James, as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his grandson Robert White, his brother John Tishion, and his sister Catherine Wilson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday June 27th at St. Gregory the Great Church, 85 Great Plain Rd., Danbury at 11:00am. Burial will follow at Wooster Cemetery in Danbury. Family will receive friends at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White St., Danbury, on Monday June 26th from 4-7pm.
