Obituary of Clarence W. Sproule

Clarence William "Bud" Sproule, 89, of New Fairfield, died on Friday, March 3, 2017 in the home he built 50 years ago. Clarence was born on May 15, 1927 in Clayton, NY, son of the late Clarence L. and Lois Kathleen (Van Coughnett) Sproule. Clarence attended Danbury Schools. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1944 at the age of 17. Upon his discharge, he returned to Danbury and became co-owner of Minck's Gas Station. He married his "girl" Phyllis (Tomanio) on August 5, 1950 in St. Peters Rectory. A mechanic by trade, he worked for Van Houten Motors and Ryder Dairy, was a manager at General Tire and Val Tire, and was a courier for Grolier. After retirement he traveled our country and restored army vehicles with his friends at New Fairfield Veterans. He served as President of the Hollywyle Park Association for several years and was active in other neighborhood committees. He will be sadly missed by his children Leigh Kulhay of Danbury, James and his wife SuzAnne of New Milford, Gregory and his wife Lorie of New Fairfield, and William and his wife Elizabeth of New Fairfield. He is also survived by his 16 grandchildren Kyle, Claire, and Trevor Sproule, Josh, Matt and Caroline Sproule, Lindsey Pasternack, Lauren Eaton, Logan and Lance Sproule, Jeffrey and Nicholas Kulhay, Greta Silva, Maria Kulhay, Johanna Gray and Rebecca Kulhay, and 15 great grandchildren, Tyler, Cailie, Charles, Shane, Connor, Nicholas, Tyler, Sean, Austin, Jaylen, Makena, Colin, Hazel, Nolan, and Holly. Clarence is predeceased by his sister Geraldine S. Masson. The family wishes to thank Regional Hospice and Home Care for the excellent care they lovingly gave to Bud during his long illness. The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 11 from 1:00-4:00 at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White St., Danbury.
