Obituary of Maria Airo
Maria doceu Airo, age 102, of Danbury, passed peacefully at Western Connecticut Rehab Care Center on Friday, January 6, 2017. She was the beloved wife of the late Edward Alves Airo, Sr.
She was born on September 4, 1914,in Parada, Portugal, a daughter of the late Goaquin DaCosta Castanheira and Rosa Rodrigues Pimenta. Mrs. Airo emigrated from Portugal to Danbury during World War II and found employment in Danbury as a hatter. Later in life she was a factory worker at Eagle Pencils. During her retirement she was the "adopted Vovo" to the many children whom she babysat. She was a woman who enjoyed her family and friends. She was a parishoner of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Western Connecticut Rehab Care Center for the compassionate care that they gave to Maria.
Mrs. Airo is survived by her son: Edward Airo Jr. and her niece Albertina Pereira both of Danbury and members of her extended family as well as many friends.
The family will receive friends at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White St. on Monday, January 9, 2017 from 11:45am to 12:30pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00pm on Monday at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery.
