Obituary of Joseph J. DelMonte

Joseph J. DelMonte May 08, 1913 - December 22, 2003 Joseph J. DelMonte, 90, of Gregory St., Danbury, devoted husband of Vera (Moro) DelMonte, died on Monday, December 22nd at Danbury Hospital. He was born in Danbury on May 8, 1913, son of the late Alberto and Mary DelMonte. He was a lifetime member of the community. Mr. DelMonte was a Veteran of World War II, serving with the United States Army as Staff Sergeant in the 3rd Armored Division under General Patton. He was a recipient of the Good Conduct Medal and the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon. Mr. DelMonte was a retired salesman from Hoffman Fuel, Co., and had worked as Manager of the first Market Basket on White Street in Danbury. He was former Councilman of the 3rd Ward, was past President of the Rotary, Local 721 in Brewster, NY., and was past Sergeant Major of the Bugle Section of the American Legion Fife, Drum and Bugle Corp. Besides his cherished wife of 54 years, Vera, he is survived by two daughters, Susan DelMonte of Milford, and Diane Dustin and her husband, Robert, of Morristown, Fla. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Nina and Elvera Dourdis of Florida, and Amelia Dourdis of Greece; two great grandchildren, and sisters, Annette Gustafson of Danbury and Rose Pelligrino of Trumbull. Several nieces and nephews also survive him. He was predeceased by his grandson, Joseph Dourdis. Funeral Information A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph Church in Danbury on Friday, December 26th at 10:00am. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery. There are no calling hours. The Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury, is in charge of arrangements.
