Obituary of Casimir E. Chmielewski

Casimir E. Chmielewski September 08, 1915 - October 20, 2003 Casimir Edward Chmielewski, 88, of Walden, VT., formerly of Danbury, died unexpectedly on October 20, 2003, in St. Johnsbury, VT. He was born in Danbury on September 8, 1915, son of the late Paul and Antoinette (Jesionowski) Chemielewski. He attended St. Peter Catholic School and Danbury High School. ON September 27, 1941, he married Mary Josephine Eriquez at St. Joseph Church in Danbury. He entered the United States Army on August 18, 1943 in New Haven. He served his country in Northern France, and received a European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon with two service stars, and a purple heart for his efforts. He was honorably discharged on May 21, 1945 at Camp Edwards, Massachusetts. He was employed at several hat companies in Danbury, including Bieber Goodman Hat Co. and Newman Endler Hat Co. He was later employed for sixteen years at Barden Corp, and for 13 years for the City of Danbury School System, as a grounds keeper. He retired in 1979, and moved to Walden Vermont where he has made his home since. Casmir was a parishioner of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Danbury. He enjoyed gardening, traveling and spending the winter months in Florida. Survivors include a son, Paul Chmielewski of Walden, VT.; 4 sisters: Mildred Sholtes of Bethel, Mrs. John (Nellie) Burzenski of East Haven, Mrs. Florence Belorit of Bethel, and Mrs. Harry (Valeria) Lane of Walden; three grandchildren, four great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary; a son Robert Chmielewski and a brother, John Chmielewski Funeral Information A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Danbury on Friday, October 24th at 9:00am. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury, on Thursday, October 23rd between the hours of 6:00pm and 8:00 pm.
